Far-East spirituality had inspired Mennessons for a long time. It pervades the 1978 Targets, the Archery series in 1982 and 1983, as well as the 1983 Zen Gardens. In this black and white marquetry- collage, the OH of awakening is the jagged white line which, through he dark, lays out a path opening on to the white space. Our firm certainties need shaking off and finding their way to a place somewhere, to an “elsewhere”.
