Encre de Chine + gouache sur papier | Collection particulière
At the top of the sunny hillsides above southern Alsace, castles were built to protect the work of vine-growers. The even-balanced composition of this gouache is a praise to nature subdued by man. On the curves of the hills there prevail the blue, yellow and red colours of the castles overlooking the white ground. On the right, a white cross, edged with red, suggests the staunch roman catholicism of this province.
