This is the artist’s first marquetery-patchwork: the coloured papers are cut and inlaid like thin pieces of wood or ivory in cabinet-making. The artist and the craftsman thus become one and the world of geometry: Hyperbolical Paraboloid enters the world of art and light. From the black background there spring two dashing primary colours, bright-red and gold-yellow. An impulse drives the shapes to the right. The colours are given by the printing-ink which Mennessons appreciated for its lustre and its sheen.
